“There was an aching in my chest, seeing the damage and how sad the people were. As I saw the smiles on the people’s faces, the aching in my chest seemed to disappear.”
“We landed in Louisiana and after spending a day getting comfortable, it was time for work. ‘I hope I don’t pound one of my fingers with a hammer.’ I thought as we drove to the first house. At a quick glance, the outside of the house looked intact, but inside, it was another story. When I saw the severity of the damage, I forgot about my concerns about my fingers and instead thought, ‘Can we fix everything? How can we help these families feel better?’”
“I never saw myself as someone who could help others and now I do.”
“What impacted me the most was seeing how devastated the families who lost their homes were by their loss. The best part of the week was the feeling of helping the people overcome their hardship.”
“It made me realize how everything you do for someone else, no matter how small, is significant.”
“The highlight of my week was really getting to know my homeowners and their stories and to see how happy they were to have us.”
